You might think that there are serious limitations as to what your personalised number plates can be, however, there is actually a range of of kinds of number plates, which means that there is actually a fair amount of versatility as to what format your plates can take – which means that there is a good chance that you’ll be able to find exactly the kind of plates that you’re looking for!

With this in mind, what kinds of registration plates are out there?

Prefix Plates

Prefix plates are the most common format for private plates, and therefore the chances are that if you see a private plate on the road then it is going to take this format.  The popularity of prefix plates is undoubtedly due to their simplicity, as they consists of one letter, a number and then 3 letters.

Current Style Plates

Current style plates are slightly different to prefix plates, but they are essentially the same format, but with the year identifier displayed as a number rather than a letter. This makes the format of the plates slightly different – and therefore the possibilities for custom plates all the more exciting!

Dateless Plates

If you really want a plate that screams personalisation, but without any of the extra bits then its just got to be dateless plates – which are the most sought after of DVLA plates! And with good reason, as they are the originally issued plates introduced after the 1903 requirement for all vehicles to be registered – with the added bonus that they don’t carry an extraneous date! Due to their rarity of course, these kinds of plates are expensive and highly sought after.

So, such is the range of plates that not only are you likely to find just the statement you’re looking for, but also plates that are well within your budget!
